WHIDBEY ISLAND WASHINGTON USA
SNOW LAKE
Snow Lake
is nestled in a narrow bowl beneath Unicorn Peak, Tatoosh
Range, on the south side of Mount Rainier National Park. Early in the
season the lake is surrounded by snowbanks that usually do not melt out until
mid-summer. Camping is available but not plentiful. Take time
to explore the surrounding talus slopes. There you will find marmots
and pika, and more wild flowers than you can photograph. The lake is
reached by a 1.5 mile trail so expect company. This is a beautiful
place, very well worth the visit, a good place to take children for a hike
or even an overnighter. Drive to the trailhead via the Stevens Canyon
Highway within Mount Rainier National Park, about 7 miles southeast of Paradise.
